To help my students learn amid this pandemic, I would use a variety of cooking tools to help my students with life skills, times of celebrations, or incentives to reach goals. Fractions, converting measurements, reading recipes, sequences are just a few of the skills we will introduce and learn through the year.My students absolutely love to cook in class. We will enjoy reading the recipe, talking about the ingredients, and gathering together.
Cooking provides many skills as well as gives the kids opportunities to engage in opportunities that will be beneficial the rest of their life. Getting the mini fridge, convection oven toaster, hot plate, and food cart will give us many different options as we work together and strengthen reading and math skills while learning every day life skills.
To make an upcoming unit more engaging my students would love to cook, eat, and gather as a group. I have learned that many of us missed out of group gatherings while we were in the pandemic. Many students felt alone, lonely, and missed friends. This gives our classroom family a time to mix many skills that we all benefit from.
