My students will research the particular artifact that they will personalize in clay. We will then have it fired and glazed. They will not only create long term memory of the item, but also be able to express themselves in a different media from writing. They will also learn how clay items are created.
The Yearling will engage my students as they relate to nature and family lessons and ignite their desire to read. Holding the book, turning the pages, and the anticipation of what will happen next establishes a bond mental and physical bond to reading.
