Through the use of an exercise bike, my physical education classes will be able to utilize another form of exercise. My students are familiar with running, jump roping, aerobic type exercises etc. but due to limited space indoors, many have never been exposed to the wonderful benefits of bike riding.
Cycling indoors can help you meet fitness goals in rain, shine, or whatever the weather throws at you. The stationary bike can help you boost your muscle strength, lose weight and burn body fat while being easy on your joints. Students who are already over weight often find cycling to be an easier way to begin an exercise program and then move in to more difficult tasks such as running. This is also an activity in which they are not necessarily competing with others but working to do better than the last time. Stationary bikes are also a great tool to use with special needs students who may not be able to ride a traditional bike.
Our goal will be to eventually add more stationary bikes as funds become available.
