I teach first grade students. These students have never had a traditional classroom learning experience since they started preschool because of COVID-19. They have not been in the face to face learning environment consistently since they have started school. I think this is very evident with what they know academically coming in at the beginning of the school year and how they interact with other students.
The things I have requested to be bought for my classroom consist mostly of hands-on learning games, manipulatives, and classroom tools to help my students enhance their learning. These things will enhance their learning by attempting to replace the hands-on and face to face time with other students they have lost due to COVID-19. These games and manipulatives will allow me to let my students work together in groups to further their understanding on certain topics. As students are working together, they will also be catching up on the vital skills they are lacking such as communicating with others, learning to compromise, and showing compassion for others.
