I teach fifth grade math and have over one hundred students. The pandemic has impacted my students academically and emotionally. Math has been greatly impacted by COVID-19. These students lost the end of their third grade year where math facts are mastered and spent time distance learning in fourth grade due to the pandemic. Because most of my students come from homes where both parents work or they live with a single, working parent, these students have had to learn in various locations while distance learning. About ten percent speak English as a second language. This makes learning difficult. Even through these challenges my students come to school determined and ready to learn! I have seen the result of these interruptions and am responsible for interventions helping my students catch up. Providing noise reducing headphones that are the same for everyone allows my students to have an equitable learning environment. It also provides a quiet opportunity to engage in our learning platforms. These platforms are used for new concepts as well as relearning previous materials. Having a class set will set us up for success!
