This project involves students in my Advanced Placement English Language and Composition class creating an autobiographical scrapbook that will include a variety of writing topics about their lives. This project is meant to be challenging but it will also enrich their lives, and hopefully, my students will have a little fun and grow from this assignment. A few of these writing assignments include; a personal alphabet, personal symbol, autobiographical poem, future plans, personal creed, a letter from a friend, and several more thought-provoking writing pages. Students are required to have a certain number of pages with different topics but can also include "extras" if they wish. For instance, the letter from a friend, students are only required one but can include multiple friend letters. Along with the writing assignments, they will be required to have pictures throughout the scrapbook. Items needed for this project include; scrapbook albums, an assortment of pages (with various designs), markers, tape, a photo printer (with Bluetooth capabilities, so each student can print pictures from their cellphones), extra printer ink and paper, and extra scrapbook pages.
This project will not only challenge the students in their writing abilities but will give them a keepsake to treasure once they graduate from high school. I have done this project at both other schools I have taught and this is one assignment almost every student cherishes and keeps.
