As first graders, we spend our entire year learning to read and learning to write, about the world around us. We are becoming readers who love to learn. We are becoming writers with a purpose in our writing. So many of my students come to first grade saying "I can't read," "I can't write" , "I don't know how to read", "I don't know what to write about", and with Covid-19 these first graders have never known a year without interruptions. They have never been in school for an ENTIRE year. So I am needing some extra resources to help close the learning gap for these students. They need more books that are on a basic level to help them gain confidence in their reading skills. They need books that engage them but are also great sources to teach the decoding skills and comprehension skills they will need to become lifelong learners. The games that will help to reinforce the skills that we are practicing in our small reading groups will also help to build their confidence in their reading abilities. I want to help my students to become the best readers and writers that they can be but I need your help to make that happen. With the books and writing activities that I have listed I think that these items will help me fill the gap that was left by the pandemic and help to enrich my students learning.
