I just took over my second grade class of 18 students in January and I want to give my students a sense of ownership in our classroom. I am asking for several different materials to help make our classroom feel our own. Throughout the pandemic, these sweet boys and girls have had lots of "interruptions" in their education and I want them to feel comfortable and confident from here forward. I am asking for some flexible seating options, as well as materials that will give us more options for centers and with whole group instruction.
I want to empower my students to make positive decisions. By allowing them multiple seating options, I can encourage them to make the best choice for themselves and for those around them. I want to accommodate those that need to move around a little more than others, without disturbing their peers. I, also, want to be able to provide more center options to let them make choices based on their interests, and hopefully discover some new ones.
I also have several items on my list to help improve our classroom. The biggest one being fluorescent light covers. My students (and myself) have complained several times that the lights are too bright so I hope this change will be very positive for our learning environment. We are also in need of red pens for them to check their papers, incentives to reinforce positive behavior, folders for their daily work, a door bell to grab their attention and a new clock to strengthen our time telling.
My hope is that allowing them some freedom in these little choices will lead to making better choices throughout their day! Please help support me to create and foster a positive environment for these kids who have been through so much.
