My awesome students are in need of headphones with microphones. The students love to use the computers in the classroom to work on the Waterford program. This program allows the students to work on reading and math skills at their own pace and level. Due to circumstances from COVID-19, students are extremely behind in the academic areas. It is essential that teachers keep students highly focused. For my Kindergarteners, they love working on the computers. This is one of the highlights of their day. They stay actively engaged when using the technology, but easily distracted if they have no headphones and hear another student's computer. Due to economic circumstances, many of the students are unable to afford the headphones.
Many school programs have been cut over the years, sadly the arts programs have taken a huge hit. At the beginning of the school year, some students come into kindergarten not even having had experiences using scissors. My students need to be able to explore the arts weekly, if not even more. Research has linked the arts with academic success. The use of paint brushes, modeling clay, working with small beads, glitter, etching, finger paints, brushable paints, and chalk will work the student's fine motor skills and imagination. In a world where technology has taken over, my students need the arts more than ever before. This will open up a special world for these children.
