Students learn in Band by hearing examples and then trying to produce what they hear. As teachers, we demonstrate the instruments, clap and count, sing, and use video screens to teach concepts.
The Yamaha Harmony Director is a special keyboard designed to let teachers do even more. With this keyboard we can play multiple parts at once using band instrument sounds. It will record and play back sounds, provide a click track at different tempos, and is adjustable for different tuning systems.
With this tool, we can teach the students how to improve their playing relative to others in the band. This teaches the band to work together for a more mature sound.
