As the 2021-2022 school year began with in-person learning, I observed the unexpected disequilibrium amongst the children as they were reintroduced to one another in shared spaces. Together, we began an intentional dialogue regarding the children about how we want to feel and developed the idea of a space in our classroom we could feel safe and calm. The children will utilize the space to help regulate their emotions and stress levels so that they can be ready to learn. The space will provide a safe space to utilize new self-regulation strategies.
