Many times funding stops at the core classes, and with this opportunity we can gain equipment without having a student fundraiser which usually generates very little cash. The students that I teach will no doubt be the future of Construction, Welding, Machining, Heating and Air and other trades not usually covered in the traditional classroom.
The fact that we are a Title I and nearly 100% free lunch school gives you an idea of the lack of tools and equipment in our students' homes. 75% of my students are labeled Learning Disabled and they often get lost in the shuffle because they are not “smart enough“. It may be the first time in their lives they’ve actually used any construction class equipment.
Just like core classes and athletics I would like to give my students the best equipment available to learn on and this will no doubt put that equipment in their hands. Thank you all very much for considering us.
