My project started this year after a colleague informed me of a movement called Classroom Book a Day (CBAD). The goal is to read aloud a picture book each school day. This was hard to do this year, since I am a first year teacher and haven't collected enough books to read one per day.
By the end of the year, CBAD will expose students to almost 200 books that promote engagement, support identity, and build community in the classroom.
The books I have chosen are inclusive, diverse, and support social-emotional learning. Since I have so many different ethnicities in my classroom, it is important to me that they see themselves represented in the literature we read. That is why I have chosen these books.
