I teach 4th grade ELA. The last year my students had a normal school year was when they were in 1st grade. Their 2nd grade year was cut short by a full nine-weeks period which caused them to miss out on fundamental reading and writing skills. Their 3rd grade year was a catch-up year but continued absences and COVID quarantines further widened the gap. The students are excited to be in class with their friends and are so engaged in learning. Books in the hands of each child would help bridge the gaps. However, I am in need of class sets of books. I want books in the hands of my students so we can do group in-depth studies of not only the literature but also hands-on practice with the standards I am required to teach. This is a major need in my classroom.
