My students have struggled the last few years with the pandemic. Some of my students have never had a normal school year. This is the 3rd year that has caused disruptions for all schools and students. I teach music and art and am supporting classroom teachers by integrating what they teach into my classroom with the arts.
Using art to integrate and teach their core curriculum has a powerful effect on student learning.
We do a lot of music, but I would love to give my students more opportunities to work with art supplies. With these art supplies(watercolors, rubbing plates, white pens, etc.), my students will be able to express themselves and improve their social and emotional skills as well as be more motivated to be in school (which is a struggle with COVID). Also, by integrating and supporting the classroom teachers in reinforcing their curriculum I am helping students who are struggling academically close the gap created. by COVID.
