To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use a slab roller to assist my students as they create slab based clay projects. It will ensure an even slab construction that can be used for several of the hand building projects assigned in the ceramic lab.
Using a slab roller will dramatically help make my classroom more engaging for my physically challenged students. My ceramics class is offered to all students at my school, I work hard to make sure that those with learning and physical disabilities feel welcome and comfortable. A slab roller will allow them to be more successful when hand-building using a slab technique. We currently create slab projects with rolling pins, but students who don't have the upper body strength or dexterity, due to a physical challenge, find it difficult to create slabs.
All students in my class will benefit form using a slab roller. It will help them to be more successful in their clay production, allowing for less problems with air pockets and uneven slabs. Each student creates around 9 projects a semester, and many of those projects require a slab base or slab technique to be used. I am excited about providing more opportunities for my students to be more successful while creating and hand building in clay.
