The materials I have requested will address sensory needs, fine and gross motor needs, life skills, and vocational skills. My students use exercise balls when they need to move to help them concentrate on tasks or instructions. They crave the sensory output that an exercise ball chair will provide them. With the materials like the play restaurant set, the positional word game, I will be able to provide my students with task boxes to help them complete skills such as vocabulary, fulfilling an order, and other academic and vocational skills. The pots, pans, griddle, hot burner, and other kitchen equipment will allow my students to have hands-on experience preparing their own meals. As of now, we are only able to make no-bake snacks. These materials will allow us to broaden the scope of skills that we can equip our students with. Due to Covid, we are unable to go out into the community as much as we have previously been allowed, ergo we are lacking in resources to provide hands-on learning activities that community lessons provide. For example, the traffic and community signs will give students a concrete sign instead of a picture on a worksheet. The items provided will give our students the resources to adapt classroom instruction to meet our needs until it is safe to once again explore our community for life and vocational skills instruction. I have also requested Science and Social Studies models to give my students concrete to explore the concepts they are learning.
