Students often access methods of calculating that do not involve critical thinking skills. Without access to calculators throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, students have not been able to practice these skills with calculators in hand. Students need calculators in the classroom to practice calculations and solve equations. Currently, students have to use their chromebooks to use their calculators and not always do they have an assignment where they need their chromebooks.
I am requesting Texas Instrument TI-30XS calculators for my classroom so that I can increase students' critical thinking skills that they have lost throughout the pandemic. These specific calculators provide the assistance that students need for Algebra 1. In order to store the calculators, I am also requesting a number pouch to store the calculators safely throughout the day. This storage system will hold students accountable for their calculator. The batteries I am requesting will help students greatly benefit from the ability to access calculators in their classroom. Many students often need pencils throughout the day so I am requesting a box of those as well.
