STEM materials/bins are a great way to facilitate hands-on, fun, and engaging learning experiences for my kindergarteners. STEM activities come in a variety of materials and a wide range of activities. For my students, I will use several items to include the PicassoTiles magnet set, word building blocks, A ThinkFun Gravity Maze Marble Run, and many pre-made bins. I also have included supplies like easy punch design shapes, toothpicks, color dot markers, flexible straws, washi tape, storage bins to house the supplies, and other items they can use to express their creativity. I included five wobble chairs for them to sit in as they create. I am a firm believer that little bodies need to be active as their creative juices flow. The materials that we learn to use and create within our classroom may also be used at home if we are required to go virtual during the pandemic. Many of the bins offer new experiences to my students as they work together to complete a task or collaborate on a creation. The items are versatile and it is amazing to watch their ideas come to life! Having STEM materials/bins will aid in developing my students' creative abilities and give them the understanding that many items can be used in multiple ways in the classroom and at home.
I want to grow their hands-on love of learning as the use of technology sometimes consumes our lives especially when virtual. I am excited to see how these STEM materials/bins allow my KG students to create. I know they will love them!
