These art resources, such as watercolor paper/watercolors, colored pencils, and paint sticks, will be used in my classroom to provide my students the opportunity to take mindful moments in our busy school days to create art. The goal of these artistic moments is to help children process stress and anxiety, of which we have seen a significant increase in our students due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
A lot is expected of our students, and providing them with calm moments to explore their creativity and process emotions is essential to their well-being.
My students will use these resources to draw and sketch, paint and doodle. When my students are engaged in creating art, even as simple as coloring, stress levels decrease in our environment and a palpable calmness enters the classroom. Helping students regulate their emotions and bring attention to mindfulness allows them the ability to access their cognitive functions for learning.
