The learning loss that occurred because of the pandemic is most evident in the foundational literacy skills of students in our community. I will purchase books that will accommodate various reading levels of my students as well as promote the foundational literacy skills for reading and writing.
Because of the pandemic, most of the students in our community have not developed the foundational literacy skills to achieve learning goals in all content areas. My greatest obstacle to supporting my students’ development and enjoyment of reading and writing, is the lack of variety in my leveled books, read alouds, and informational texts.
My goal is to provide a library of books that meet the reading level of the student, has age appropriate content, delivers positive messages about diversity and creates a positive learning experience for every student. I want the students to be able to take the books home to share with their families and demonstrate the learning that is taking place in the classroom.
