Our students have suffered significantly from the lack of stability created by the COVID-19 pandemic. My students specifically show a great gap in learning in their ELA studies. At the beginning of the year, some students were reading at just above the third-grade level. Their comprehension and fluency skills were subpar. They have made great strides to correct this issue but with the resources, I am requesting they could go farther.
It is our responsibility as teaching professionals to do what we can to correct this gap in learning. Giving these students the tools they need to struggle less in the next grade is my goal. When students become tired, beat down, and lack confidence they are less likely to graduate. Go to college. Learn a trade. I want my students to become valuable members of society. While a few ELA tools won't magically make that happen, hopefully, it will help give them the confidence they need to make it happen themselves.
