We want to do alternative fuel engineering in the classroom to use for reality-based science but if we only have one stirring hot plate to use in the classroom, it does little for the many students who wish to participate. Only one means that it probably will not be a project but if we have enough for at least the one we have and the other three possible ones; we can have a reasonable time performing the lab tests as a complete class.
The students need to warm and stir the cooking oil to make it into biodiesel fuel to test the substances against diesel fuel. Then they will compare and contrast the fuels to find the best efficiency and use for the public and environment.
I have large class sizes so this will allow for four lab stations at a time to do this investigation.
