Cooking can help students with their social-emotional development in many ways. For example, these supplies will offer students the opportunity to have more hands-on cooking activities/experiences and will help them build their confidence and skills within a kitchen environment. By having students use this new equipment, it will encourage students to be more self-directed and independent within their work and lab experience.
The deep fryers will help my ProStart class get industry experience and get to use different and safer cooking methods within my class. All my Food & Nutrition classes plus ProStart will be able to benefit from the garlic presses to help them mince and prep all our garlic to use. By having the garlic presses, students can use their time more wisely in lab settings. We will also use the cake/baking equipment during our baking units in all my courses. Having these nicer cake stands and pans will help students produce more quality work and give them industry experience . All of the new utensils will replace the old and broken utensils they currently have in their lab groups. This will provide students access to newer and nicer stuff, resulting in less chance for injury or mistake. The juicers and thermometers will also be essential for my classroom. For example, we will use the meat thermometers to make sure they are cooking their meats to the correct and safe temps. The juicers will help us provide fresh juice to use in our recipes without wasting any food or having to buy pre-store bought juice.
I also have a lot of students who do not bring pencils or highlighters to school. The box of pencils and highlighters will help provide my students will a pencil or highlighters if they don't have one while in my class.
