Unfortunately, students do not read anymore. There has been a huge push for digital technology. Sometimes students need to be able to transport themselves into a different life, situation, place, or feeling. A book a can do those things.
This project is a semester long project for students to compare and contrast the two lives of two real people who made very different choices even though they grew up in the same area with the same name.
I teach in a Title One school district where all students qualify for free lunch and few have had the opportunity to expand outside of their immediate area to see the other possibilities in life. I am hoping that by reading and learning they have choices they will be encouraged to make the right decisions in life.
