As we learn more about effective education, we're discovering facts about how children learn that seem common sense. One of these facts is children aren't made to sit still at a desk all day! Kids are made to discover their world through movement and play. This is especially true for children with learning disabilities and attention disorders such as ADD/ADHD, which is a large percentage of my classroom. That is why I would like to implement flexible seating for my students.
Flex seating allows for students to take charge of their learning and find what works best for their body and brain. During a pandemic, it's important for students to feel some control and agency in their lives. As small as choosing their seat is, it will allow for better learning to happen during a pandemic. As their teacher, all I want is for my students to be as successful as possible in the classroom. To bring my dream learning environment to life, I would love to get seating options for students who can't seem to focus in traditional seating, fostering success and autonomy of choice. Education is evolving and classrooms should change to reflect that! Please help us create a learning environment that is accessible and functional for every student!
