My goal in the library is to teach children to become readers. Learning to read is essential but learning to love reading gives children an advantage. It opens doors to discovery, knowledge and experiences. Reading helps us understand ourselves, others and the world. Reading gives us a place to make connections, understand others stories and helps us not feel alone. Reading inspires new ideas, action and change.
Bright, fun flexible seating will invite and encourage our students to discover the magic of reading. Providing our students with a comfortable place to read other than a table or desk changes their view of reading from a task or a chore to something that is entertaining, fun, a choice not a requirement. Flexible seating will help enhance the feel of the library and help students who are anxious, overwhelmed, or hesitant feel at ease and comfortable. COVID-19 has affected all aspects of our students lives at school and at home. Many students are struggling reading due to interruptions in education, lack of exposure to books and educational resources.
I am excited about giving our students a place to learn to love reading by creating spaces for them to explore the pages of books. We have all experienced a moment where all our stress, worries and insecurities melt away as we cozy up to a good book. The donation of flexible seating will give them the opportunity for that same experience.
