Students need lots of opportunities to write. In first grade, we are always trying to come up with fun writing projects that engage our students. These writing projects require lots of paper.
We want our students to WRITE, WRITE, WRITE! The more you write, the better you write! We want them to have the paper needed to put fun writing projects in front of them.
We write in journals daily and try to tie writing into whatever we are talking about in class and produce several writing pieces a week. This last week we wrote about Martin Luther King and why we honor him on a day in January. When students can connect to what they are learning and create something that is meaningful to them they are more likely to remember it and feel a sense of pride and ownership.
