Every student deserves the right to be heard and to participate in classroom activities. Augmentative Alternative Communication devices (AAC devices, which include BIGmack switches) give students who have limited verbal output a voice. The funds from 第一吃瓜网 will be used to purchase BIGmac Switches (communication devices) which will enable students who have severe disabilities and are non verbal to have a voice. BIGmack Switches are large buttons that speak a prerecorded message when they are pushed. They can also activate special adaptive toys when pressed. BIGmack Switches provide an adaptive way for students to participate in classroom activities that they would not otherwise be able to participate in.
BIGmack switches can be used in a variety of ways and in a variety of settings. For example a message saying "hello" could be used to allow students to greet peers; a message saying "more" would allow a student to request more of a preferred activity; high frequency vocabulary words may be added to the device to allow participation during a group reading time. BIGmack switches allow classroom participation to nonverbal students with limited mobility. They are easy to activate, program, and use.
