My students are constantly asking questions about the world around them. As First graders they are curious as to how things grow, how our planet works, and how animals interact with the world around them. I am hoping to buy my students kits where we can explore these things together. We want to experience the life cycle of a butterfly and a ladybug. My students want to observe the changes that take place through metamorphosis and journal about their findings.
We will use these materials to gain hands on experiences of the world around us. My students are eager to connect their learning in the classroom to the world around them.
Additionally, in First grade we spend many hours working on students ability to read. As a teacher it is my goal to not only teach students how to read but how to LOVE to read. By building up my classroom library for each holiday, students will be excited to pick up a new book and find the love of reading for themselves.
