Incorporating 3D printing into our project-based lessons will help my students in a number of ways.
First, student participation and engagement will be increased. Challenging subject material can make it difficult for students to stay engaged. 3D printing will help me illustrate complex subjects and allow for more student interaction.
Second, 3D printing promotes active learning. Students will be able to interact with a subject through every stage of the lesson. Things that were previously accessible by reading or looking at a picture can now be touched and manipulated by creating 3D representations.
Third, my students will be able to apply creative thinking skills as they are presented with problems that they will need to solve, test, and adjust their solutions with trial and error.
Finally, Incorporating 3D printing and STEM activities into the classroom promote curiosity in STEM careers. Students will have opportunities to understand complex concepts and test their theories. These opportunities may later encourage students to pursue a career in science or engineering!
