As students have navigated the COVID-19 pandemic through the past couple of school years, it has, unfortunately, had a large effect on the students' interaction with each other. This interaction has become so digitized that they have forgotten how to act with each other and work together as a team to accomplish a common goal.
AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination) Is a fantastic course that is offered that allows students to build relationships through team building and academics.
These students work together to keep grades up and at the passing level. A lot of the work in class is geared towards helping students to learn about colleges, universities, and career paths that interest them.
It is so amazing to see these students work together to accomplish great things and some of those things can be as simple as playing games together in class, as well as having a very serious talk about a book that has been read in the class. These activities keep and build those in personal relationships and communication skills that they have been wanting to have, and build over the past couple of years. These activities can and will be used each year into the future as well not even during a pandemic.
