Being in one on one therapy with students, I have the opportunity to help them build their "tool box" of healthy coping skills and learn to emotionally regulate.
I help them make "happy books" with pictures of calming images to look at during class instead of getting their phone out. I use games to help them explore their understanding of various emotions or social situations.
I also use fidgets and manipulatives to distract their nervous energy or help them emotionally regulate when they are talking about challenging things they are experiencing.
