As a speech-language pathologist it is important to have a variety of engaging and fun materials to motivate students that have different needs and interests. Materials from Lakeshore Learning such as the language rods, vocabulary games, mystery box with small items to work on descriptive language, and prefix/suffix match up to expand vocabulary would be very helpful. Toys such as the fisher price house from Amazon, magnetic tiles from Lakeshore, Learning and dinosaurs from Amazon help motivate younger students and play-based speech therapy is effective for younger students. The social emotional materials and identifying emotions/feelings game will help my students gain practice with identifying and expressing their emotions/feelings. Having fun materials motivates my students and expands their ability to communicate for a variety of purposes such as expressing their wants, needs, feelings, and ideas in the school setting and beyond. These materials will be used with elementary school students during small group therapy sessions and the progress made during therapy sessions helps these students expand their language abilities beyond therapy sessions.
