My students are re-learning how to work together again. Since the pandemic, several students have been at home for the past two years and have lost the socialization and emotional growth for those years. Many of my students are starting middle school and have not had in-person instruction for two years. With all the newness of secondary and the disruption caused by the pandemic, many students are struggling with interacting with one another and re-adjusting to school life.
I want my extra-curricular classroom to be a place where students learn to be team members while also growing their individual strengths. The dry boards and games will help the students to learn to work together. The puzzles and scripts will empower students to discover their own abilities and confidence. The speaker and curtain lights will help students when they have had an especially stressful day. Many of the items will help guide students to appropriate classroom behaviors lost over the past two years. The faster we learn to intact and work together appropriately, the closer we can get to our learning goals.
