Data driven instruction allows me to catch learning in real time. Students are able to see instant feedback, results and learning goals within a single period. Working on an iPad full time allows the students to have full access to their teacher and when needed images of student work can be projected on the board for the class to observe, critique and learn from without delay. Students appreciate having feedback within a single period, and as the teacher in this setting I am able to spot mistakes, provided correction or commentary and send the student home with mastery and understanding achieved. Having a laptop allows me to be mobile so I can collaborate with teachers and build common assessments, common benchmarks and team learning targets that transfer into the math class and make the math department more unified. Parents, teachers and students (essentially all stakeholders) are able to have full access to curriculum and data results without having to wait for grading periods or emails to inquire about student learning and performance. Having these digital resources allows me to be a full time digital age teacher and a better servant to my students and their families.
