Last year was difficult for all students, but especially for Kindergarten students. In Clark County their first year of school was spent almost fully online. This year we are seeing the results of last year. Students do not have the foundational skills they need. I want to give them the solid foundation they need to be lifelong learners. To do that I need to be able to work with small groups in my classroom and to focus on specific skills each child is missing. This project will help me do that. When I pull small groups the other students need to be engaged in effective learning.
The headphones and phonics activities will help me to effectively teach my small reading groups. We have a lot of fun online learning programs and students need headphones to use. I work at a title I school where a lot of families can't afford to send in a pair of headphones. Phonics skills are vital to creating successful readers(CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.1 - CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.4). These phonics activities will enable me to spend more time teaching my small reading groups and will allow students the opportunity to play fun phonics games in their centers while I work with others.
