Our classroom library needs some help! We often do not have enough variety of books at varying levels to accommodate all readers in the classroom. They love reading and are very motivated by Accelerated Reader; however, they do not always have books readily available. Because of COVID, all students have experienced setbacks academically in some areas. Reading is an area of high need in my classroom. A lot of my students also have been affected financially and do not have reading resources at home. Improving our library with new AR-level books and fun reading tools will help motivate my students to become better readers while also providing them opportunities to take more books home that are on their levels. The bins will help organize our library by level so that students can be more affective readers and easily choose a book that鈥檚 in their level. It鈥檚 not easy for 2nd graders to recognize books on their level on their own. Other materials requested will help in the following ways: highlighters to help us find details in our reading, wipes to maintain a clean & COVID free library area, privacy shields because students take comprehension quizzes after reading, pop its because it鈥檚 a great phonics blending tool for small groups that motivates students, easel pads for anchor charts, markers/table pocket chart for small reading groups, bookmarks for their books, pencils/erasers/scissors for our phonics/reading activities and sorts, and last but not least, stickers! When students complete a book and get 100% on a quiz they are rewarded for their hard work!
