As our central meeting space, a classroom rug allows us to establish a classroom community. It serves as a cozy, safe place to comfortably gather and fully engage in learning. Much of our day is spent learning through whole group instruction on the carpet. We do phonics instruction, literacy instruction, math instruction and read alouds on the carpeted area in the front of our classroom.
A classroom rug will aid in classroom management and gives students an option to alternate between chairs and the rug. Having a rug such as this defines the space as well as sets boundaries for student spacing. Students will be able to easily find their seat on the rug. This rug also lends itself well to the kindergarten curriculum as students are learning letter names, sounds, and applications.
