My 6th graders are a resilient bunch that show up every day eager to learn, but most of them are reluctant readers. Many of them have stated on several occasions that they do not like to read because it is boring, too hard for them, or they see it as a chore. I tell them that this is because they have not found the right book yet. It is my mission to help them find those books that get them excited about reading. I want to provide choice in reading with various genres on their level to help foster the love of reading. Once they are able to find the right book, we can celebrate in their excitement and success in finishing the book. This in turn will motivate them in not only building this life long skill, but will also help in closing the learning gaps and help them progress with their reading levels.
