All of my students come from low income families. In fact we have two family shelters in our school zone. Being able to provide books they can relate to and a snack to quiet the rumbles would be a great help for raising morale and classroom harmony.
I specifically chose books that represent my students. About 95% of our students are Black and Latin. A great deal of them also receive assistance of some kind. It is important for them to be able to see themselves in books that empower them and give them hope.
