As common with many students with Dyslexia, my students need extra support with literacy skills. Issues with working memory and lack of organization skills are also common traits. In order to provide structure and systematic reading and writing strategies, I will provide each student with a resource binder that will be used daily throughout the 3-year curriculum during their middle school career. This has been a difficult learning year for the students; thus, consistent, predictable resources and routines, such as this binder system, are needed to close the learning gap. Each binder will have working sections for reading, spelling, writing, handwriting, and fluency. The strategies for coding words, breaking apart words, and reading comprehension skills will be copied on the colorful cardstock and slipped into the page protectors. The colored pencils will be used to color code words and sentences according to our Dyslexia curriculum. My students cannot afford to provide their own resources and will feel pride in their binder notebook. It will organize our entire curriculum and give the students a place to reference, learn, and refine vital skills that will carry them beyond the classroom!
