My students are from a very low income community. Our school provides food and clothing for many of them. I have been teaching there for ten years now. When I started, the students were mentally closed off and interest was very low. But now these students have been very active in our music program! The arts is so important in schools and can reach students in a way that nothing else can.
I do everything I can do inspire my students to express themselves musically, so they can make a closer connection to the music they listen to on their own.
