As our 7th and 8th graders prepare for their transition into high school, it is imperative they are given the resources and skills to make efficient study habits.
Many students are not provided with the organizational resources to be held accountable, and with the help of individual planners, our students can get in the habit of being accountable for their own learning, and gain the tools they need to succeed in the real world.
Once they receive the planners, we'll go over as a class how to copy down assignments so that the assignment and the deadline are clear. We will also do planner checks at the end of each day to ensure that each students knows what they're responsible for having the next day. With the help of these organizational tools, we know our students will be unstoppable!
The products selected are nothing fancy, but having a dedicated space to record homework will be invaluable for students' learning and organization. I've seen firsthand the effect that proper tools can have on learning. Since starting a homework board in my room in which the materials and expected assignments are posted each day, students are more likely to be prepared and take advantage of their learning time. I hope that the planners can be a tool for them to further their own education, and take responsibility for their assignments and growth. The habits they establish in middle school can set them up for success in high school and beyond!
