To engage more students in robotics, we need programmable LEGO robots. They need robots to build and program in small groups and a course/track to run the robot through for the programming challenge. They also need tablets that can run the LEGO Robotics application so that they can program their robots. My students will use these in a variety of ways. They will collaborate, plan, and explore as they design and build their robot and work their robot through a challenge set up in the room. I also want our students to be able to share their learning and excitement, so we do a showcase of their robots for parents and staff at the end of each Robotics Club season.
The kids in my school deserve to have experiences that fire the imagination. These robots will help do just that as they work with a team of aspiring engineers to program their robot to run through a gauntlet and hopefully beat the other teams in the club. The work they do will be meaningful and I hope it will inspire a new generation of engineers and coders, diversifying the STEM career field!
