Distance learning did not give a lot of my students an opportunity for hands-on learning using tangible items due to COVID distance learning. Many of my students benefit from having tangible items/pictures to manipulate as they learn or communicate. The Cricut maker and tools will be used to create manipulatives that can be used to create activities where students can expand their language skills such as following directions, prepositions (in/on/under/between, etc.), temporal concepts (before/after, next), answering questions and engaging in on-topic conversations. This along with the printer ink, lamination and self-adhesive dots will be used in the creation of picture icons that my language delayed and non-verbal students can use to communicate and participate in activities. The materials I create will help my students increase their speech, language, and communication skills. These Nevada Academic Content Standards will be specifically targeted with these materials: speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly; and describe familiar people, places, things, and events and, with prompting and support, provide additional detail.
