My special education kindergarten students thrive when they are provided multi-sensory, hands on learning opportunities! Rather than doing worksheets to learn their ABC's and 123's, kindergarten students need access to play-based materials to manipulate, explore and discover with.
These materials would be used in our play based ELA and math centers to facilitate hands-on learning opportunities for our most vulnerable, special education students.
Many of my kindergarten students were not able to attend pre-school due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of them started kindergarten unable to recognize their name, identify any letters or count. The materials on this list would provide a plethora of math and ELA opportunities for my unique population of learners to access the kindergarten curriculum at a developmentally appropriate level.
I have seen how play can positively affect my students academic and social growth and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
