Online learning was the innovation of 2020 with COVID impacting our nation. Students and teachers were learning and continue to learn how to evolve in the classroom to adapt to the changing needs of the world with physical and social distancing space. Headphones have become the essential guide to learning as we can have small group meetings while students remain in the classroom and collaborate over virtual video conferencing platforms. The students are demonstrating a need for alternative methods of processing information which is why I'd like to challenge students with whiteboards designed to encourage problem solving strategies with math and iPad pens that can differentiate student response with illustration/drawing their work to submit with the whiteboards selected they contain pre-printed graphics to help students organize their number sets in the format desired for that mathematical strategy. Students will use the stylus pen as a modification for those struggling with mouse control on a chromebook and utilize the ipad for their computer tasks. We have 3D printers in the building and students can actually utilize the stylus when designing to rotate their product more easily. Science center to dig in-depth and study specimens will help with data collection in their research projects. Students also study science where data is observed and recorded in mathematical graphs.
Measurement and Data 5.MD
A. Convert like measurement units within a given measurement system.
1. Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions of solving multi-step, real world problems.
B. Represent and interpret data.
2. Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented.
