Social, emotional skills play a massive part in how children learn. If a child struggles emotionally, they will be unable to focus on their academics because stressors and worries are constantly taking their focus away. Due to the pandemic, we have seen a rise in conflicts in school as children did not have an opportunity to develop positive communication skills, did not practice coping with problems, disappointments, and how to self-regulate.
Having kids play games together will help them practice how to cooperate, deal with disappointments, get better at things, and focus. It also gives them an incentive to accomplish their social-emotional goals for the week so they can enjoy some gaming time.
Having an organized group with specific goals will help kids feel safe and interact positively while at the same time working on their skills. The ultimate goal is for the students to show an increase in positive relationships and increase in grades.
