You learn so much more about a child while observing them play than you do in many other circumstances. Play is one of the main ways in which children learn and develop. It is a way they learn how to self-regulate their feelings. It helps to build self worth by giving a child a sense of his or her own abilities and to feel good about themselves. It helps develop social skills (which many young children are lacking due to Covid quarantines) and problem solving.
Play also gives students the opportunity to learn how to work together and build life long skills that they will carry on with them. These building and STEM and sensory items will help fulfill many standards throughout the kindergarten curriculum. These STEM and sensory items align with the shift back to play based learning that Nevada is starting to implement. Some standards that they will help with are as follows: L.K.2.D, SL.K.6, K.CC.A.1, K-PS2-1 and K-PS2-2.
